Coffee Sale Porto Rico

Porto Rico is my favorite coffee roaster who I discovered in the 80's in law school. They just started their Springtime sale. In the fall the owner Peter Longo has his birthday sale. I have no affiliation with this place except that I've been getting my coffee there for years (buy several pounds whole bean and freeze it appropriately in my deep freezer in zip lock bags). Peter's blend is my go to coffee blend. Free shipping over a certain amount.

Why not roast your own? Porto R is charging $100 for a roasted pound of Kona. Green Kona beans range between $36 and $39 per pound, depending on the year's harvest. A "roast" takes about 20 minutes and is relaxing.

Other green coffee beans average from $4 to 10 per pound and are excellent. The coffee you roast and grind yourself is unlike anything you are going to get in your local diner.

A beginner roaster costs $200 OR you can even use a popcorn air popper but you get less control.

I have no desire to roast my own but have fun doing so. At least you bumped up a helpful post albeit with a non-sequitur.
Sale goes on until the end of April by the way.

Very non-sequitur.   Especially in light of the fact that Wendy wants to support that business - one that I am also familiar with for many years.

Reading these posts just made me crave coffee.

Thank you sbenois. Much appreciated.

I intend to order from them, but you know what they say about intentions, good and all...

I bought Peter’s Blend for years ❤️. He had a store near where I lived. It’s a great  shop.

My wife worked near Porto Rico for years and they were our go to coffee roaster when we lived in MAPSO. Their French Roast was always outstanding.

Shipping is free to anywhere in the lower 48 all the time if you order over $75 worth. Not hard to do but some folks split their order with a local friend.

Peter's birthday sale is going on now. Peter is about my age. grin I think I even spoke to him once when I called and ordered several years ago. I definitely once spoke to his wife about manual pour-overs (which I use) versus other ways of brewing. My order arrives today. Yay.

This year's sale started on Sunday. I placed my order on Sunday and it arrived yesterday, all 17 pounds of a mix of my favorite Peter's Blend and 2 types of decaf for the decaf drinking person in the house.

Properly made, you get 16 12oz mugs of coffee per pound.  That's barely a week's worth!
The standard is two tablespoons of coffee (about 1/2oz total) per 6 oz cup of coffee. Yes, the standard cup is 6 oz.  So one ounce per 12 oz mug, 16 mugs per pound, two mugs per day, or about 46 lbs per year if you never have company.

The math checks out.  I love Porto Rico French Roast!

Nope. Porto Rico has two major sales: Peter's Birthday Sale and the Spring Sale. My order this week was for 17 pounds which was a repeat of the April 2023 order., the Spring Sale. It is composed of 9 Peter's Blend; 8 decaf (divided into 5 decaf Columbian and 3 decaf French Columbian). I have one large 16 ounce cup of real coffee every day first thing in the AM and I had to buy one pound yesterday at Trader Joes as my coffee order hadn't arrived. As to the decaf that's my spouse's drink. I don't drink decaf. It's my big coffee cup in the AM and that is it for me usually.

As to making my coffee, I boil up 16 ounces of water and make my coffee in an old fashioned Melita pour-over (this was key during power outage during Sandy) and do the burst flavor, etc. with 3 very heaping tablespoons.

Now that you all know this, feel free to invite me over for a good cup of coffee lol!  surprised

see, that’s more like the amount I drink daily. French press…One cup! Too much coffee strips your body of magnesium… which can cause a lot of headaches and irritability….not to mention insomnia… judging from the posters on MOL, I can tell who consumes 34 pounds of coffee annually… smile

I was waiting to see who had an issue with your below average coffee consumption, since you seem to make a few people reach for the coffee pot… surprised

The two of us ---we go through 40 pounds of beans a year.  Right now, we are on Kenya AA. I roasted some first crack to see if we like it.

We ran through the Kona in August.

Well if you double the 17 pound order (October and April sale) you get 34 pounds of coffee a year in this household. So you are just a bit more coffeed up than the two of us, one of whom is just on decaf lol!

Holiday blends on sale now.

Thanks for bringing back memories jaytee!
