Coding Bootcamp?

I am considering a summer bootcamp for my son who is about to graduate from college. Are the worthwhile? Which languages should I be looking for?

I would go with Java to learn how to code in the object oriented world.  SQL (database programming) is also highly in demand. Javascript is used all over the place for web pages.  Certain frameworks /techniques are popular right now: JSON / AJAX, REST API / web services, JQuery (Javascript), etc.

I would check on the success rate of graduates of the boot camps to see if employers accept and hire developers from them.

Regards,

RCH

What is his background in software so far? If he wants to be a programmer, some theory courses go a long way, because the theory is behind all languages and a lot more.

Thank you.

He has zero programming experience.

It depends on what he wants to do with it. A job? General interest? The answer to that question determines the answer to the "which bootcamp?" question. If he wants to, for example, write iPhone apps, then he should find himself something that focuses on Swift.

A lot of people have taken to teaching programming using Python, which is pretty easy to learn.

My son, who had no interest in the stuff when in college, needed to pick up SQL for something at work and was able to do it pretty quickly even with no background at all in anything else, but he sort of needed to be on the job in order to know that he needed to learn SQL, if you know what I mean.

There's a school called Wyncode Academy, that teaches Ruby on Rails and Javascript.

I've taken a few coding courses at Udemy.com and they're pretty good: https://www.udemy.com/
