Charitable Organizations Cancel Mar-A-Lago Events

Five more charities announced Friday they were dropping plans for fundraising events at President Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida, as the administration continues to feel the backlash from business groups after the president’s handling of the violent clashes in Charlottesville, Virginia, last weekend.

Susan G. Komen, a multimillion-dollar nonprofit that raises money for breast cancer research; the International Red Cross; The Salvation Army; the Autism Association of Palm Beach County; and Big Dog Ranch Rescue in Loxahatchee Groves, Florida, all said they were pulling events from Mar-a-Lago’s upcoming winter fundraising schedule, according to local reports.

They joined the Cleveland Clinic, the American Cancer Society and the American Friends of Magen David Adom, all of which announced Thursday their decision to move their events off-site, bringing the total of charities to pull events from Trump’s estate to eight.

At this point I think most of withdrawn including the real prestigious Preservation Foundation of Palm Beach, a charity focused on the ritzy island's architectural landmarks, had planned to hold a dinner dance at Mar-a-Lago next March. The foundation was a new customer for Trump's club, and a potentially lucrative one: It spent $244,000 on rent and food on a previous gala at another site, according to tax filings.

Wonder what's happening at his other venues?

A group like the Southern Poverty Law Center or the Anti-Defamation League should book the place for a large anti-racism fundraiser and then stiff Trump on the bill like he does to everyone else. 

How is this that the Salvation Army can afford to hold an event there in the first place?

Aren't they notorious for extremely high *overhead* and CEO salaries? Very little of each dollar donated goes towards the actual charity. 

Hard to believe a charity like Komen would book Mar-a-Lago in the first place.  All he does is denigrate women and rail against healthcare programs.

Because the color of money is green and Cancer doesn't discriminate. People like to be seen giving money. Maybe the money from donors who want to be seen at Maralago and hopefully with Trump by association helps color the rose glasses? Now if Planned Parenthood hosted a fundraiser there, I would be legit concerned about the hypocrisy. Idk I'm rambling don't mind me.
