Carplay ??

I have a 2007 car.  Is here a way to use CarPlay thru my radio?

Complicated question and vehicle-specific.

As much as I hate to refer you there, I’d join a FB group specific to your car or at least the make of the car, and then ask the question there. There will be more people with specific experience.

I think if we had the make and model of the car, we can google the answer.

OTOH, since Carplay didn't come out until 2014, it probably wouldn't work on a 2007 car.

Too many variables to really say that. You can often replace the head unit (radio), even in an old car, and get CarPlay to work.

Apollo_T: The Crutchfield website is also a good place to look at retrofit and compatibility issues.

 well, yes, if you replace the head unit, then it will work.

Most likely will have to upgrade your radio. Do you have the double DIN space for the upgraded radio? 
DIN opening is the size of the opening where the radio fits. 

What is your goal? To play audio from your phone through your car's stereo system (such as music and map directions)? It may be as easy as running an audio wire from the phone into the stereo's aux jack, if there is one.

Car is 2007 Mitsubishi Outlander.  

Goal is to use for phone GPS and other things I may want.  IF there is aux port to pug into it’s not readily apparent.  Ι checked further— an article a few years ago talked about using a transmitter to do this(and i do recall seeing ads from Bell & Howell(?) for such a device.  But I haven’t seen anything recently.  The article was very general so it didn’t contain any brand references.

I suspect that bc new cars have built-in consoles the market fo retro fits has pretty much dried up.  A new radio is not worth it to me.. I can easily continue using what I have— this is a very low priority.

Ahhhh the value of asking the right question… it’s a Bluetooth FM transmitter.  Price range seems to be $15-30.  Certainly alot less than the $00s for a new radio.

Yeah, that’s very different than CarPlay. Got one a while back for my son’s car that doesn’t have an Aux port. Glad you found your solution.

 ok, but realize all that's gonna do is let you direct your phone's speaker to the radio. No GPS. Nothing like Carplay.

 Get a magnetic air vent phone holder, a Bluetooth fm transmitter, and it’s basically the same. You can play music or whatever through the radio, then when you need to make a turn it’ll tell you, if you unmute your gps. Same thing.

Best Buy have them. Inexpensive.

I used to have one that was a fake cassette that plugged into the headphone jack of your phone, no Bluetooth required.

 I did too. Worked great and cost about $3. Apollo, does your car have a cassette player?

The Bluetooth devices work really well. Just plug into the cigarette lighter port. Given that phones all have Bluetooth, it is a much more elegant solution than the old cassette with a wire.  (I had one of those too a long time ago, but my car then was way older than a 2007.)

I haven't used an FM transmitter in years, but my recollection was that their performance was spotty in this area because of how many radio stations we have. It was just hard to find a frequency that worked well.

Maybe they're better now.

I've had both the FM thing and the tape thing and the tape thing was much more reliable

Ours tunes to 90.7, I think. Works well. Works even better when you wire it to the transmitter rather than use Bluetooth.

My car is a 2003 so I still use the tape thing myself. No aux port. No bluetooth.
