 Location?

14 Academy Street, South Orange

wasn't he at Pickett's?

He was there after David Burke's operation took over the Kitchen at Orange Lawn Tennis Club. Bistro D'Azur is more his style.

Thanks for the update. I'll have to check it out. He's an excellent chef.

Looking forward to trying this new restaurant. Sounds very interesting.

Can someone post a menu pic? The online menu says sample.

That is the current menu. Be advised that this is a BYOB.

David Burke is fabulous and his Orange Lawn TC is a gem. Richard Krug is punching in the same weight class. As to Burke, I am looking forward to his Asbury Park venture which will include a cooking school!

Totally agree. We went there last night for the first time and had a wonderful experience...the food, the service, and the atmosphere were terrific. We'll definitely be back again!

We must check it out...

Two thumbs up for Chef Krug and Hank Zona.  I ate there last night as part of the South Orange Maplewood Adult School wine tasting dinners.  The food was excellent, the ambiance was great, and Hank's encyclopedic knowledge of wines / food pairing was amazing as well.

I'd love to try it, but unfortunately, it's too expensive for me to even think about.

I like having reliably excellent local options for special occasions, and don’t mind paying a premium for them. Lorena’s and Common Lot fill that bill (pun intended) for my family. For our anniversary a couple of weeks ago, so did Bistro d’Azur.

It is definitely pricey. Funny, given that the previous restos in that space, Noodlefan and Family Buffett, were decidedly downmarket.

I’ll try it out once at least. Maybe it’ll be great and worth the price.

The prices do not seem high when compared to Verjus or Lorenas. The cooking is amazing and being a BYOB you save on being charged the 2x ,3x or even 4x markup on wine you would order from a wine list.

Check out the four-course NYE menu at $79. That's not cheap, of course, but still WOW!

Looks like quite a meal - four legit courses. They add 20% tax and gratuity as well.

We rarely shell out $100/each for dinner (even with a drink included). Special occasions only. But I hope they fill up NYE.

I just had to update the image.  grin  I look forward to trying it out soon!

We ate there last night. I love the atmosphere. Food was very good. Service was inconsistent. It ended up being about $75 per person. We brought our own bottle of wine. Would definitely go back.

For purposes of price comparison: Lorena's NYE in 2013 was reported back then on MOL as $150.00 per person.

NYE is a little different from Tuesday night in November.

See mrincredible and rivoli comments above on $79.00 NYE at Bistro D'Azur. $79 seems a reasonable New Year's Eve price if not a bargain.

Apolgies, I thought you were responding to jfinnegan's post. Missed the other two NYE posts. $79 for NYE is a pretty good price.

Went there this week for birthday dinner. If the experience we had is the norm for this place, I would say without hesitation that this is the best restaurant South Orange has ever had, and I have lived here for more than two decades.

The décor lovely, food innovative and delish, an interesting NJ based wine list/and BYOB option, professional service...truly outstanding. Yes it is on the pricey side but worth it for a nice night out.  I can't wait to go back and hope our area can keep this gem around and thriving.
