Did this just happen?
Whereabouts?
Any description of this person?
Thanks for the heads up!
Just happened. Millburn. Did not get a look at him because I did not open the door.
It just galls me that someone is trying to trick me into opening the door by saying that he can't hear me. He heard me perfectly well. And I have to say, my natural instinct was to open the door when he said he couldn't hear me. I had to hold back from doing so. I'm thinking they are taught that most people will instinctively open the door when told, "Sorry, I couldn't hear you."
Thanks for posting this.
This is one of the things I like about having my pit mix in the house when my son is home alone. Anyone who comes to the door will be hoping it doesn't open.
this makes me so happy we have a vestibule and glass doors. I open one door and speak through it. I never open the exterior door. Good to remind the rest of my family not to either.
This is good to know. However, whenever anyone appears at the door two large dogs are there to greet them. I'm happy to have them both!

I am certain that all of this is carefully scripted:
I get a knock at my door. A very breezy, light-hearted tap-tap-tap, like one I'd get from someone I was expecting.
Me: "Who's there?"
Him: [says name in a friendly/breezy way, as if I know him]
Me: How can I help you?
Him: A car just went by, I couldn't hear you!
Me: How can I help you?
Him: Can you repeat that, a car just went by.
(No car was passing. I would have heard it too.)
Clearly, he was using every trick in the book to get me to open the door.
Please warn your children that no matter what the visitor says -- even if he "can't hear you," do not open the door.
