Battery Not charging - but plugged in - Is Monster still fixing computers?

My laptop- (HP pavilion) at exactly 1 year since purchased, is not charging.

I checked MOL business listing for computer repair but the link to Monster is not working

Does anyone know if Monster (or alternate) is around ?  Any other suggestions- I am at 9% and getting nervous

try taking the battery out and putting it back in.  I had similar problems with an HP a couple of years ago and that helped, although it was a software update that finally fixed the problem.

I had a similar problem with my iPad(tablet).  I tested the charging 'brick' and the cable... it was the cable.  A pal had the same problem.  Someone also suggested cleaning the connection points on charging unit, cable and computer.  Try compressed air and tiny brush.

@monster  !!!

This trick doesn't work any more.

I don't think you can repair a battery. They tend to bad after a bit. Just order a new battery.

Batteries are typically the first thing to go bad, but you can try TanMax on Springfield Ave for repair or at least diagnostic.

Not likely after a year. It's possible, but it can be another component as well. Theread might be a problem in the power supply where plugging in the laptop will power the laptop but not provide energy to charge the battery.

Buying a new battery won't help that.

If you can pop out the battery but the laptop continues to run while plugged in, you know the problem is not your cord or outlet.

it's a pretty easy and cheap solution. If it doesn't work, you return it and then you go for expensive diagnostics.

Lanky, the link isn't working, says the page doesn't exist, are they closed?

I can recommend Steven Brier, a computer specialist in Maplewood.

Since this is likely to be a hardware problem, you could bring it by Ralph at One Stop Repairs. You can stop in any day but Wednesday.

Sometimes batteries are defective, and it doesn't show up right away. The battery has several cells inside, and one being bad will make the whole battery operate badly such as this. If it's under warranty, the manufacturer should replace it.

There might be a battery recalibration procedure for your computer model, and it might be lookupable.

Try this version of the link - http://tanmaxcomputer.com/

(For some reason, MOL is adding a space at the end of the URL, which is giving 'Page doesn't exist' results)

Also, there should be a hardware diagnostic on your laptap which should tell you if the battery is good or not (or at least Lenovo has it).

on the HP that I referred to above, when you plug in the charger, an orange light comes on the side of the machine.  It turns blue when the machine is charged.  It used to flash blue, and the screen would say "plugged in, not charging". It wasn't the cable or the battery.  It was a BIOS issue.  Pulling the battery and putting it back would get it charging properly for a day or two.  After a few months a BIOS update fixed it.

thank you all

BIOS updated resolved the issue ! YEA

OK, I've been having this same issue, I think. Computer laid dormant for about a year because I misplaced the power brick and had a tablet and frankly try to avoid the computer at home. Found the brick. Wife got her computer wet. Fired up the computer with the newly found brick and it says it is charging, but it is not.

Light blinked at first but removed and reinstalled the battery and now it *thinks* it is charging, but isn't. Is the battery shot, or can I force a BIOS update, whatever that means?

If you can power the computer on, you can do a BIOS update. You have to look up how to do the update.
