We went with the pump and a backflow preventer just in case. That bathroom is not used daily so it works well for us. In our case, it is used for all the drainage of the bathroom (Sink, shower, toilet).

We are renovating a basement, and will be lowering floors below waste pipe level. I don't love the idea of putting a waste pit with an ejector pump, and was recently told about a macerating (or upflush) toilet. These macerators grind the waste with a motor, then pump out to the waste line. No need for a waste pit to be dug out. Anyone know if macerating toilets are reliable? Thanks a lot
