Asbestos testing

Hi all. I need recommendations for someone to tell me if a material i uncovered is asbestos. I'm going to seal the opening back up until I can get it tested.

Attached is a picture of a piece that fell out. I think it's just old press board used for a ceiling but if anyone has seen something like this it would be great 9f you would chime in. Could be beaverboard ... the fibers look like wood.

Thanks. Trying to distract myself with house projects this week.

A picture of the stuff in place. I think the white on the outside is from the layer of plaster that was over it.

Looks like old beaver board. Widely used around here decades ago. As far as I know it doesn’t contain asbestos, but I had to wear a mask when I removed it from the attic. It creates a lot of dust.

That's what I was thinking, plus a friend who's got a lot of construction experience agreed

What in the jim jam hell is that a picture of?

A ceiling. Used to be a screen porch (we think) that's now our sun room. It's drywall over metal tiles over plaster over beaverboard over tongue and groove boards.  There was a knob and tube electrical circuit (now decommissioned) to a ceiling fixture. That's the tube thing you see in the middle.

Asbestos is not safe but from what I've read over the years, there is very little risk in the kind of limited exposure to it us owners of old houses might get, even when the stuff is disturbed.   The danger, generally, is from prolonged exposure like factory workers got or from a massive catastrophe of concentrated exposure like 9 11.
