what on earth are you talking about? Is this a riddle?

Scully

Are you sure the problem you had was ‘industry wide’?

The cruise goers I know have been generally pleased with the experience...

Marie

I was one of the very pleased for years.

conandrob240

and are you going to tell us this big problem? Or are we supposed to guess?

bub

Is this connected to your hand injury?

sprout

Another bungee-ride accident?

joanne

I'm guessing it's perhaps related to 'when things go wrong', let's be supportive.

Marie

yes and no

Not a guessing game. Rather  a serious attempt to forewarn travelers through media exposure of cruise line policy and mismanagement.

joanne

A lot of that policy is so buried in very small print or so glossed over, most people are totally unaware of what's awaiting them should things go awry.

Over here, we have monthly Seniors newspapers similar to the Ledger; do you have anything like that? That'd be what I'd turn to. Or maybe the travel section of the auto-insurance magazine.

Scully

Or start here and warn us too

conandrob240

if you don’t want to tell anyone what the heck you’re talking about, no one can be “forewarned”. My “suggestion” is that you stop talking in riddles and say what the issue is.

drummerboy

a complaint about a cruise?

now there's a first world problem. Was the balcony too small?

Marie

some of the comments here prove that once a poster is considered an outlier on MOL — no matter one with 48 years  of residency in town — attack mode sets in. This story has no religious or political content. My bad.

Reason enough to not offer details here. If someone has positive suggestions, pm or email me.

Are you taking the "be the best jerk I can be today" challenge?  Cause it seems every thread I click on has one of your nasty grams.

Terry

why don’t you write up something yourself and post on medium.com or some other online publishing platform? If your story is well-written, interesting, differentiated, and it has lots of specifics and support for your arguments, it will get the attention you seek.

You've already won that award, overwhelmingly.

Still have no idea what you’re talking about. What “outlier”? Most of the time, I never even look at who posts are from. No matter who posted this cryptic silliness, my response would have been exactly the same. If people have no idea what you’re talking about, how can anyone offer any help?

 Thanks, I’ll check that website.

I know I could follow up with senior contacts, community news papers. What you said about people being unaware is right on target. I am still a tad limited in what I can do, so I was hoping for constructive responses in the planning stage.

Was just looking at CNN.com and seeing what's happening with that Norwegian cruise ship right now. There is a stormy sea and the engines aren't working. This is off the coast of Norway. They are evacuating people via helicopter and it is a slow process. Sorry,I'm off topic.   mtierney, why not send the story to The Star Ledger. From what you've said previously you've worked as a newspaper editor in the past and you write well and could put a story together. Good luck.

Nancy

I've never been on a cruise, but so many people, including my mother seem to love them.  To me it just seems like a fake place with unlimited access to foods I love but should not eat. So, I'm not surprised that it might be not as it appears.  I'd rather go to a real destination, like another country or city or national park where there are historical sights and new things to discover that are really there.  I know cruise ships have "activities" but I tend not to like the kind of stuff I've been told I would love.  If I did go to a fake place, I'd rather go to some Mexican resort where I could at least sit around on a semi-fake beach that's not moving.

I can't even watch this video without getting seasick:

Marie

Nan, ships don’t just cruise, they take you to distant destinations around the globe.

The advertising shown most often depict old couples and family reunions aboard ship frolicking madly without a care in the world along with 5,000 kindred spirits.

Other travelers view cruising as a civilized way to see the world, as I had.

But, there must be full disclosure of risks. Reading the fine print is not sufficient notice—travel companies, ship lines, tourist media, etc should serve the folks they speak to honestly.

Yes, that's what my mother tells me--that they go to ports and then get off and explore.  But, it seems she only went to the tourist shops when she got off, and they did not get much time to go off on their own.  Probably there are cruises for people like me, but I don't have the money for expensive vacations and I get dizzy easily now.  I have heard that a cruise is the best way to see some places, like Alaska.

my first thought would be AARP Magazine — largest circulation — but it is definitely not a story for the 3 minute TV spot. Not a story about crashing dishes and sliding furniture,  nor gale force winds. Nor about a passenger falling off a ship. That sad story appears regularly and then becomes yesterday’s news.
I want to reach the largest number of senior citizens, as well as other cruise travelers, to expose the dark underbelly of the cruise ship industry. The reality never addressed openly and honestly. I am told there is negligence involved, but I am not interested in suing. I really just want the cruise ship protocol that is in place to be clearly stated to travelers.
Any interest or suggestions?

I think mtierney is talking about something REALLY IMPORTANT.  Not piddling little inconsequential stuff like the Church moving priests around to let them rape more kids or a US President committing acts of treason to feather his now nest..... something that people like mtierney would actually care about, like......hurting their own hand.

Anyone interested in a story like that?

By "outlier" she means "supporter of rape and sexual abuse". Surprisingly enough, some folks are offended by that kind of stuff.

conandrob240

geez. I guess I must have missed some threads.

If you don’t know the “risks” of cruising or any other travel you take, you should probably stay at home.

You might want to skip them.  There is some very dark stuff in there.
