Any recommendations for my puppy ?

Folks

I need to spade my little puppy. My vet told me the cost for this is $650. While I don't have much experience with this, that figure strikes me as being a very high figure. Can anyone recommend a reliable, "quality" veterinarian center where I can get my dog spaded for a much more reasonable cost?

It feels weird "shopping for a vet" but Im reasonably certain that there are more affordable dog centers that we could possibly go too for this procedure

google/ai popped up some options for "low cost spay neuter essex county nj"

Or maybe Morganna, our MOL animal welfare maven, will have ideas.

(i am long out of the area and can't vouch for any of the google results)

Good luck, and enjoy your pup. : )

I have adopted from People for Animals (pfaonline), and it's a wonderful organization that provides low cost spay/neuter services as well as other veterinary services.  Another option is Liberty Humane:  https://www.libertyhumane.org/clinic

I was going to suggest People for Animals as well but, as spays are more complicated than neuters, and I haven't ever had a female dog, what do people think about a clinic procedure as opposed to going to a local vet?

As a cat rescue, I do rely on PFA particularly now that I'm trapping and releasing ferals this month.

I have taken my pets to Valley Vet to Dr. Morkos and been very happy with his skill and advice.

I did hear that Associated Humane has just opened a clinic. If I find the post I'll share it.

By the way where did you get the puppy. Most rescues will spay before you adopt?

An animal welfare group opened a low-cost clinic in Essex County this week. The Associated Humane Society in Newark already operates a shelter, but, now, they also offer pet health services at an affordable price.

"Veterinary care has gone up exponentially," said AHS social media manager Olivia Gonzalez. "It has priced a lot of people out of providing basic care for their pets." AHS says their aim is to make preventative care accessible to all pet owners. "We're really able to provide the community with a way to protect their pets," Gonzalez said.

The clinic offers pet vaccinations, nail care, cleanings, and check-ups. "It doesn't cost a lot to get your dogs vaccinated, neutered, spayed, anything else," said customer Lateefah Davis. "I only paid $160 for full vaccinations. If I would've taken her somewhere else...they want a full package for about $300 for the same exact shots." All patients at the clinic must have an appointment. The AHS clinic is open Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 8 a.m. -6 p.m.
