And now Alan Rickman! LOL

http://www.abc.net.au/news/2016-01-14/alan-rickman-dies-from-cancer-aged-69/7089984

I'm so sad....sad that his talent is reduced to "most famous for Harry Potter...", sad that we won't see new work, sad he suffered this awful disease.

Staggered that another person has 'suddenly' gone.

Relieved for him and his family that he's no longer in pain and discomfort.

Mostly, I'm finding it hard to accept.

But he is most famous for Harry Potter...that is not an insult, but a fact in a short obituary.

The obituary from the Guardian is much better, and recognizes the breadth and depth of his work.

Very sad to hear that he is gone, and condolences to his family and friends (some of whom may be local to MSO, if I recall old discussions here)

Wonderful comedian/villain.   Overshadowed Kevin Costner's playing Robin Hood with an American accent.   Brought us all much fun.  He will be missed.  Rest now

very sad. he was one of my favorites.

Loved him! I am sad about his passing.

"By Grabthar's hammer, by the Sons of Warvan, you shall be avenged!"

He'll forever be the one and only Hans Gruber in my book.  Such a great character and masterfully performed by one of the best.  And I can't think of any roles that I didn't thoroughly enjoy him.

"After all, to the well-organized mind, death is but the next great adventure"

librarylady that quote is misattributed. He never said that.

Well, I really don't care

Too young.  He will be missed.

Well, he did make Emma Thompson cry and that's unforgivable cheese

I was so so sad to hear this news. He surely had many great roles ahead of him, and it's our great loss we won't get to enjoy them. What a talent.

You'd better tell that to All of Facebook

This morning I was listening to the obituary for the actor Brian Bedford.  To me he was most notable for voicing Robin Hood in the animated version.  As a child I had such a crush on that fox!

Now we've lost one of our best villains ever.  His Sheriff of Nottingham was excellent.  Although I will always love his Colonel Brandon in "Sense and Sensibility."

To be inappropriately flippant - if these things truly come in threes should the case of "Robin Hood:  Men in Tights" be concerned?

I just read the BBC's obituary - wonderful quotations from Emma Thompson, Ang Lee, and others.

There's also this photo of him from a 1978 production of Romeo and Juliet.

For me death has always been the next great adventure.   Whether my mind is organized or not,  and I will not argue the point at least I will not need a Passport or to make sure I have clean finger nails.

RIP.   His finest role was Rasputin (alongside Ian McKellan as Tsar Nicholas).

How I loved him as Valmont! (in the RSC's 'Les Liaisons Dangereuses' on Broadway in the late 80s.) I just sort of happened upon the play at TKTs and fell totally in love, then followed him through the years. 'Truly Madly Deeply' was pretty fun too.  What a voice and presence.

So many faces - so much talent - such a loss.   RIP - Professor, Doctor, Colonel, Sheriff, Marvin (don't forget to take your towel).

So sad.  irreplaceable. He was one of my favorites, along with Philip Seymour Hoffman.  I would watch any movie he was in, no matter how bad.  RIP.

Check out his "Truly, Madly, Deeply."  Sort of on the same theme as "Ghost."  Although "Ghost" had its pluses, "T,M,D" is a much better movie.

I have seen him in so many movies... He was among my favorite actors, and I'm sad beyond measure that there will be no new projects for him that I can see and appreciate.

And the word "always" does have special significance to Prof. Snape. When Dumbledore realizes Snape's animal form and Lily Potter's are the same and that Snape still loves her, Snape says, simply, "Always."

Not that this is really relevant... But that's what the misapplied quote brought to mind immediately.

I also saw him in that play. Wow, he stole the show.

Loved him. So charismatic in all of his roles. I feel so bad that he is gone from us.

I remember watching this while home from school with chicken pox. He ws a perfect Tybalt.

He was outstanding in everything I ever saw him in, even "Quigley Down Under."  Like a lot of Americans I first saw him in "Die Hard" and "Robin Hood", but then someone showed me "Truly, Madly, Deeply" and I started to get a sense of his depth.

Remarkably, his first major stage role came at the age of 42, and his first major movie role at 46.

The fact that his delivery of this line (in a fun, silly movie about TV characters being mistaken for real space heroes) to a dying character gets me a little choked up tells you something about how much sincerity he could bring to a role.

It's a sad loss.

Galaxy Quest is currently streaming on Netflix - I know what I'm watching this weekend...
