Adrian Gonzalez!

Amazing first three games!! Projecting to 270 homers this year if he keeps this up!

Sort of tangential but I heard Vin Scully's call of the last home run yesterday. It is amazing how good it sounds and calls at 87. Just the slightest hint of rasp in his voice but mostly he sounds as he did 30 years ago. I know he only calls home games now but he is amazing.

At the end Ralph Kiner was only on because he was Ralph Kiner. He was pretty much incoherent (not that he was ever in Scully's league).

But Vin Scully can still bring it.

@ram, I would say the same for Phil Rizzuto. He stayed on the air for so long because he was Phil, same as Kiner.

Scully is great.

Of course in these cynical times one needs to ask when his last tests were.

Likely during Spring Training.

Some would say that Kiner was, if not incoherent at least hard to follow, long before the end. But I always loved him.

I never understood why the Red Sox wanted to part with A-Gon.

It's not really fair to criticize him towards the end. He was hard to understand because he had Bell's Palsy, which slurred his speech. I loved to poke fun at Ralph's malapropisms as well, because he made them so frequently. But when McCarver joined the broadcast team in '84, Ralph really stepped up his game in the booth, and had a lot of great insights about hitting and pitchers. In addition to the stories. I'm biased as a Mets fan, but I think Kiner was miles ahead of Rizzuto as an analyst.

Favorite Ralph story was when he demanded a raise from Branch Rickey after leading the league in HRs. Rickey turned him down and asked, "Son, where did our team finish last year?" "In last place, Mr. Rickey." "We could have finished last without you, too."
