Accidental donation to Morrow Memorial Church parking lot: Please help return!

My mother suddenly passed away and when cleaning out her apartment, the ladies writing desk was accidentally taken to the Morrow Memorial Church as a donation. It was left in the parking lot drop off area on Saturday. It never made it inside the church so I am assuming someone must have taken it.

This writing desk has sentimental value as both my parents treasured it (both are deceased now) and it survived a major hurricane. I know this is a long shot, but if you have seen a desk that looks similar to the one in the photo (our writing desk has about 5 small drawers on the left and right, and two that open in the center), please reach out to me. I would greatly appreciate it.

Thank you.

That's too bad, but if someone is going to steal from a church...

Oh, my. That's so sad on so many levels... I'm sorry for your loss, and sorry the desk has gone missing. LOL

It is somewhat likely that one of the volunteers may have taken it, either to purchase for themself or for safekeeping. Hopefully it will be located.

Have you called the church office to ask if they have any idea where it might be? I think the better items are usually kept in the downstairs area, so someone might have brought it in there to protect it from any bad weather. Are you positive it isn't anywhere inside the building? There are a lot of rooms used for the sale.

Good luck finding it!

Yes, I visited the church twice and looked through most of the rooms. No one working there remembers seeing the desk since it was dropped off in the parking lot area before things there were being brought inside. They are aware that I am looking for it, so I hope it will turn up. Thanks for all the suggestions.

Did you ask the staff and volunteers you spoke to to spread the word? Maybe someone who liked it squirreled it away but wasn't there when you visited... (I know, that seems to go without saying, but I figured it's worth covering every possible angle.)

It's really depressing to think someone might have stolen it from the lot before the volunteers even saw it.

Just a thought: Someone, obviously, who was helping you clean out your mother's apartment, told you that they had left the desk in the Morrow Church parking lot with other items to be donated to the sale... Is it possible that this person is not being truthful and actually kept the desk for him/herself? It just seems so unlikely to me that someone would take a piece of furniture like that right out of a church parking lot...

I would start checking Craigslist and maybe call around to some local antique or secondhand furniture shops to see if anyone's tried to unload it. I would also ask the church to ask all its employees whether they know anything...
