AC/DC sad news...

Perhaps you've already heard...

http://www.abc.net.au/news/2016-03-08/acdc-brian-johnson-told-to-stop-touring-risks-going-deaf/7229224

What else can hit this band? Why isn't it hitting The Stones and other bands of oldies?

They have lived life in the fast lane. One member has dementia, another died from alcohol poisoning. A third in jail for threatening to murder someone. AC/DC is one of the loudest performing bands. Apparently enough to make its lead singer deaf.

FWIW, loudest band I heard was Richard Hell and the Voidoids. So loud that I had trouble hearing for 3 days. So loud i awoke the next day with what felt like a hangover, even though I didn't drink alcohol.

Earplugs? I bet it's earplugs.

(I was the nerd who wore earplugs to shows in my 20s)

They were remarkably close to the vest when Malcolm Young became unable to tour. The news of what was going on didn't become known till much later.

Given that they have 10 shows to do, and understanding maybe Johnson doesn't like in ear monitors (although I'm pretty sure he's used them in the past) I hope nothing more serious than tinnitus is going on- but after nearly 40 years it seems odd that 10 dates will be the difference maker.

Best to him- they're among the greatest ever.

Loudest band I ever saw was The Who. I can't believe those guys stood there in that wall of sound night after night. I know Pete T has suffered from hearing loss. Also saw Led Zeppelin in 1970 at Flushing Meadow Park and even outdoors they wee deafening. But soooo goood.

I've worn ear plugs to Every single concert I've ever been to. When I saw Depeche Mode at Revel a few years back i brought a pack of 10 pairs and was giving them out like candy. Same with the Rammstein show at the garden (at the time their first show in north america in a decade!!) only I brought 50 pairs with me.

I'd like to have some of my hearing when Im 40. The racecars tend not to do it any favors.

I've got these:

Though I haven't needed them in quite a while...

nice i generally use the "34dB" reduction foam disposibles. I need to upgrade.
