A most important feature on your iPhone --- I hope you never have to use,

May 14, 2026 at 12:27am

iPhones, 14 and newer, have emergency calling ability that uses satellites, This is for when you are out of range of a cell tower. Yes, New Jersey has places without cell service, You must be in open sky for it to work.

You can do a test run of how to use the service by going to settings, Scroll down to near bottom and tap Emergency S.O.S.

There are choices you can make and emergency contacts you can add.

Scroll further down and you will see: Emergency SOS via Satellite. "Try Demo".   Go outside and try the emergency demo.

Your post caught my attention, FJJ, as I was checking in today. as you know, I am considering the purchase of an Apple Watch. After reading your post, would upgrading my  iphone 13/mini be another solution? If not cheaper, it would at least one  extra device to worry about!
