"There I was, minding my own business..."

There’s a typo in your thread title, joanne.

The missing full stop? (Deliberately left hanging, BTW)

The comma is acceptable, as demonstrated in the second definition’s example here

https://www.macmillandictionary.com/dictionary/british/mind-your-own-business

Much more usual in non-US English.

It’s supposed to be: “There I was, mining my own business ...”

(My timing was going to be absolutely perfect, but I had to go to bed.)

smile  snake I kept looking all day, trying to see what I'd missed!

Sometimes, you're just too good for me cheese

Reminds me of an old joke;

A cop pulls over a miner. He asks him, "Who's car is this? Where are you going?  What do you do for a living?"

The driver says, "Mine".

I apologize. Carry on.

And your reaction just made my day. Life isn’t fair.

You gotta love English!

-hey, did you read the grammar rules that Jacob Rees-Mogg is imposing on his staff??? My goodness!

Now that you called them to my attention, I took a look. Though I approached the list hopefully, I’ve decided that not a lot of credit is due to them.

Seriously, though, to each his own. We all have our peccadilloes, just not always a staff we can dictate them to. This is the one that tickled me the most:

“No comma after ‘and.’”

He and his twin sister apparently have reputations for living in a bygone era and wishing to impose those standards on all around them. (There were several wonderful comments in the recently completed season of The Last Leg. ) Too steam-punk without the fun for me.

Language is organic, and changes to suit new times and conditions. If he won't allow for that, he'll be paying more workers' compo for workplace injuries for various less-efficient typing & collating injuries. Eh. I guess it's taxpayers' £££ now, anyway.

(I think it's bedtime)
