"The Problem We All Live With"

Fantastic two-part series on This American Life on "the problem we all live with": racial integration and racial segregation in public schools. The first focuses on Normandy, Missouri, the school that Michael Brown graduated from (reported by Nikole Hannah-Jones), and the second on Hartford, CT, (Chana Jaffe-Walt). Lots of relevance to our own community. We listened on a long car ride with our kids, 11 and 15, and it provoked a great discussion about their own experiences in school. Would love to invite the two reporters to SOMA for a discussion. Any interest?

An interesting listen. Thanks for sharing.

I loved it! Found it very interesting and extremely relevant to our district. I think it is a discussion that we need to start having. I am totally interested in a discussion. My 12 year old son also had a lot to talk about after listening to it.

Really interesting. And each part featured such a different approach!

I had to stop listening at times it upset me so much. It was that good.

So many people I've talked to who have listened have had the same reaction. It's tough listening at times. I keep hearing Michael Brown's mother's voice. It's haunting. But also it raises so many important issues about education and race relations and the elephant in the room, so to speak. That's why I wanted to circulate it. I'd love for the reporters to come to SOMA for a discussion.
