#SOFit15 Contestant Dinner - March 18 at Ricalton's w/ Award Winning Food Author!

So here's the deal, we have a fun competition we're offering residents to get in shape. Registration is open through January 5 (register now - it's limited to the first 100 people) and the competition runs for five months from January 15 - June 15. Really the root of what we're doing revolves around building a "community of support" for people trying to reach their goals whatever they may be - dropping some pounds, getting more exercise, sleeping better, eating healthier. This is our first year trying this and a big thanks to Dr. Hugh Snyder for bringing the idea to South Orange Village. You can sign up as an individual, team, or SHU student. If you're a part of a team, make sure you have a "team name" before you register - you'll be asked that question. It's $20 (covers the cost of the t-shirt and some prizes).

I'm in and registered. This is great motivation.

So excellent!! Let's do it !

Thank you Sheena and Dr. Hugh. I'm in! What a terrific idea.

Hmm, I guess the 15 pounds I've gained now have a purpose.

I'm a big proponent of the come-from-behind-victory, because I'm so excellent at the first step.

18 spots remaining! Come join the action MOL! grin

What if we do not fit into any of the three categories?

I'm in! Will register as soon as I put down this Christmas cookie cheese

13 spots!

Hi Suzanne - not sure what you mean.

I'm guessing she means individual/team or Seton hall student.

Great idea for those who need motivation to shed lbs...I wish there was a way those of us who just like to be active but don't need to lose weight could join in.

Only 11 spots left!

This is a great idea. That Dr. Hugh Snyder is a smart fellow.

@shh - definitely join! We have lots of contestants just looking to make lifestyle changes and take advantage of fitness opportunities, etc.

The competition is just a fun way to promote the program and engage those who are motivated by competitions (I'm one of them, lol).

Please sign up - this is meant for anyone and everyone.

We don't live in South Orange. Does that matter? We're Maplewood...

I've been asked that a few times. For right now, it's just South Orange because we had a limited amount of spots for the year one pilot program (capped at 100). This was to keep things manageable as we developed the program. But I'm going to speak with a few folks and see if we can offer up spots to people outside South Orange once we hit our cutoff date and if there's spots available. So stay tuned.

I'm in..Whoo Hoo. Only 7 spots left. Hey Sheena, when will we receive addition information?

Yay LL!!! When registration closes we'll be emailing all the contestants with details. grin

Hmm. Time is running out. . .

Yeah, the FAQ state that it's simply a weight loss competition. I could never win and still be healthy. I could stand to drop 10 lbs, but not much more...

I think a weight loss competition is great if it inspires people to make healthier choices and start an exercise regimen, (or make one a regular part of their lives). Good luck to all the participants!

If weight loss is a goal, it's a great way to be inspired. I'd never win, but I'm proud of our community for encouraging healthy living. I look forward to reading more about it.

Hey, I just signed in, then had to go back to add my Team member, my wife and the list was full. I put her on the wait list, but I doubt anyone will drop out.

So, pull me off the list and you have one more spot free.

@shh. Yes I meant not a resident or shu student.

Why not create a second virtual group of unlimited spots that are self-monitoring (no official weigh-ins, no prizes, etc.). This way the village can be viewed as encouraging everyone to adopt healthy habits.

You mean like a second class group with no accountability, fees or full membership ?

All booked up! Can I join someone's team?
Pretty Pretty Please!

Why not? Since it's a contest and there are many of us who would not be in it to win it, it's almost like playing along. It doesn't need to be an official group of people, but if the challenges are posted (I have no idea how this will work, I'm just giving an example) we can follow along at home. From reading the materials, the fee is for the tshirt and prizes. Since it's a limited group of participants, it could be inspirational to others outside the 100 people to read and be motivated by the activities.

I would imagine posting all the challenges would also be good advertising to the sponsors and supporting businesses.
