The Secret Opera, described by New York Classical Review as “one of the small, imaginative opera companies rapidly proliferating in New York City,” presents Charles Dickens’ classic holiday tale A Christmas Carol in a new reimagining that combines the beauty of the Victorian aesthetic with the imagination of modern music. A Christmas Carol will open December 12th with two performances in New Jersey, then follow with two performances at Scholes Street Studio in Brooklyn, New York on December 19th and 21st. Dedicated to fresh, exciting takes on old classics, as well as to the creation and fostering of new operatic and art song works, The Secret Opera is pleased to combine both aspects of their mission in the presentation of A Christmas Carol. Reinvigorated with adaptation by Scottish actor and director Marcus Crawford Guy, A Christmas Carol includes a dramatic reading of the original Dickens story, interspersed with classic Victorian carols sung by a four-voice female quartet and improvisation of dramatic musical moments by string trio. Actress Annie Lutz will direct and act as narrator for the evening, accompanied by a quartet of some of NYC’s finest young classical singers as well as a trio of dynamic instrumentalists. Appropriate for all ages, A Christmas Carol will get every audience member into the holiday spirit with the magic and mystery of Dickens’ beloved story in an intimate musical setting. A Christmas Carol will have two performances in New Jersey, December 12th at The Tabernacle in Mount Tabor, NJ at 7:00 PM, and December 13th at Community Congregational Church in Short Hills, NJ at 5:00 PM. Performances in New York City will be on December 19th and 21st at Scholes Street Studio in Brooklyn, New York, at 8:00 PM and 7:00 PM respectively. Tickets are available at http://www.thesecretopera.com and are $15 for students/seniors and $20 regular admission. Tickets are available in advance online or at the door.
