Learn about the health impacts of genetically engineered foods and enjoy a GE-free local food tasting -- event held by Slow Food Northern NJ. Internationally-known expert Michael Hansen, scientist for Consumers Union, will discuss why we should be concerned about the explosion of genetically modified organisms (GMOs) in our food supply. He will discuss the lack of adequate safety testing, studies linking genetically engineered (GE) foods to allergies, immune system effects and damage to various organs; he\'ll review which GE foods are currently on the market, why they should be labeled and how you can avoid them. A representative from Food & Water Watch will discuss the recent push to label GE foods in NJ. There will be a local GE-free food tasting, including cheeses, breads, salads, and desserts, and Slow Food Northern NJ school garden partners will share their successes.
