Free screening of Living for 32 at Seton Hall

FREE SCREENING OF LIVING FOR 32, A FILM ABOUT VIRGINIA TECH, with Colin Goddard, survivor and film protagonist, and distinguished guests at Seton Hall Thursday April 25. Seton Hall will host a free screening of the 40-minute documentary Living for 32 on Thursday, Apr. 25, 6:00-8:00 PM, with commentary from Colin Goddard, survivor of the Virginia Tech shooting and protagonist of the film. Joining him will be James Johnson, former Undersecretary of the Treasury and overseer of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco & Firearms (ATF), who was one of the first senior officials at Columbine in 1999; Carole Stiller, President, NJ Million Mom March; and a representative from Seton Hall’s Public Safety and Security. The event is open to the public by RSVP to Preventgunviolence@gmail.com as well as to SHU students. It will be held in the Chancellor’s Suite at the University Center (Lower Level). Parking is free for those who mention the movie screening to the campus parking guard. The event is sponsored by Seton Hall’s Center for Multiculturalism & Civic Engagement. Living for 32, directed by Kevin Breslin and produced by Maria Cuomo Cole, was an official selection at the 2011 Sundance Film Festival. It is titled both for the 32 victims killed at Virginia Tech and also the 32 people on average who are murdered with guns every day in the United States. In the powerful film, Goddard, who survived four gunshot wounds, shares his and his classmates’ experience on April 16, 2007, and also explores the current situation in America regarding gun purchases. Since recovering and graduating from Virginia Tech, Mr. Goddard has become a spokesman for the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence. His many appearances include “Oprah,” “Anderson Cooper 360,”and the March on Washington to End Gun Violence this past January. Montclair resident James Johnson, currently an attorney in private practice in NYC, served under Pres. Clinton, overseeing the ATF and five other major bureaus. After his experience at Columbine, Mr. Johnson has been fighting for new gun safety legislation. Carole Stiller is president of the NJ Million Mom March Chapters of the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence. She works tirelessly throughout New Jersey to enact strong legislation as well aseducational programs for children and their parents on gun safety. Seton Hall’s Public Safety and Security personnel will answer any questions specific to SHU.
